Rockford Symphony Orchestra
Amusement & Entertainment
The Rockford Symphony Orchestra is one of the leading cultural institutions in Northern Illinois, performing over sixteen classical and pops concerts annually.
Founded in 1934 and incorporated in 1943, the RSO is an award-winning orchestra and the third largest in Illinois. The RSO continues its commitment to fulfilling its mission to lead in the creation of vibrant musical experiences that enlighten, educate, and entertain.
The orchestra performs in the Coronado Performing Arts Center, originally constructed as a 1927 atmospheric movie palace. This state-of-the-art facility boasts a large stage and orchestra pit, 2,200 seats, a fully restored interior, an acoustical enhancement system, and full accessibility for audience members with special needs.
Since 1991, the organization has been led by Music Director Steven Larsen. Each season, the RSO presents lectures, discussion series, and other community engagement programs that give opportunities to learn more about music. The RSO is also the parent organization of the Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO), the region’s only full orchestra training opportunity for students.
