What is the Leadership Development Academy?
The Leadership Development Academy is a 501 c3 nonprofit organization that empowers and inspires future leaders to build and strengthen our area and create a better place to live. This year the Leadership Development Academy is working with 31 participants (the largest class to date!) from all over Rock County who are learning leadership skills and engaging in our communities. This year’s LDA participates come from 24 different organizations, including governmental agencies, nonprofits, education, and corporations both large and small. Many times, these participants would never come in contact with each other in their day-to-day activities but are able to through LDA.
Participants work with project teams to find needs in our area that will create partnerships to find answers and solutions to some of our local problems. Many LDA team projects stem from non-profit organizations sharing their needs, but some see a need and work to help with that need that is not connected to another nonprofit. After working through issues during our Community Challenges session, this year participants are choosing their five projects. Their eyes have bene open to some of the challenge we have in Rock County.
Through these sustainable projects, participants come to see how their time and talents can make a different, therefore, they reach out to other nonprofits and become board members, volunteers, and ambassadors for their local chambers. We work to give a hand-up, not a hand-out. The teams will present their projects in May.
Please join this year’s LDA participants, along with members from the GBCC and Forward Janesville at our Nothing But Net(working) event.
